Double Award Winners: ‘Sunflower Power’ Garden Triumphs at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2025

A powerful collaboration between Beth’s Sunflowers charity, Hannah Thomas Garden Design, Jack Moody Landscaping, Jack Moody Nursery, and Hollybush Garden Centre has achieved double success at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2025, with their moving showcase garden, ‘Sunflower Power’, winning both the Platinum Award and the highly coveted People’s Choice Award.

This award-winning garden is far more than a display of horticultural excellence — it is a deeply personal tribute to Beth, a vibrant and inspiring young woman who tragically passed away from Leukaemia just two months before her 21st birthday. The garden was created to honour her memory and to raise awareness and support for Beth’s Sunflowers, the charity set up in her name to aid those affected by blood cancer.

The garden was designed by Hannah Thomas, whose thoughtful and research-led approach ensured every detail carried significance. Inspired by the symbolism of sunflowers — a flower Beth loved and one that has come to represent her family’s ongoing hope — Hannah designed the garden around meaning and memory. A spiralling pathway, shaped in the Fibonacci sequence to reflect the natural form of a sunflower head, leads to a handcrafted steel water feature symbolising the sunflower’s life cycle.
The garden blooms with colour, featuring various shades of pink, Beth’s favourite colour, and of course, a joyful array of sunflowers. One especially poignant detail is the inclusion of the ‘Our Beth’ rose.

Nearly 700 plants were used in the garden — including all the sunflowers — and were expertly grown and nurtured by Jack Moody Nursery, renowned for producing high-quality, show-standard plants.
The final garden was constructed by Jack Moody Landscaping, with close support from Hollybush Garden Centre, whose team also helped bring the vision to life.

And now, plant lovers can take a piece of the award-winning garden home: many of the plants featured in the garden are available to purchase at Hollybush Garden Centre, so visitors can recreate elements of the design in their own gardens.
Together, the team poured heart and soul into this project, and their shared efforts were recognised not only by the judges, who awarded the Platinum Medal, but also by the public, who voted Sunflower Power as their favourite showcase garden of the entire show.
Winning both awards is a testament to the power of collaboration, compassion, and creativity — and a fitting tribute to Beth’s life and legacy.
